5 Must Have DIY Design Tips
When planning a wedding, couples almost always instantly start thinking about their wedding look. Whether they are dreaming of colors ideas, wedding party attire, floral arrangements or table decor, it can quickly turn from exciting to overwhelming. Then, when you bring in ideas from your sister, mom and friends, it can create an in-cohesive look. This might start your wheels turning even more on how to find the right wedding look by tying all these ideas together.
So, I am here to help! As a wedding planner that has designed countless weddings and coordinated almost 100, here is how you find the right balance for all your DIY decor.
DIY Decor Wedding Tips
Start With Selecting An Overall Style– Contemporary, French Country, Mid-Century, Scandinavian, Tudor, Victorian.
Select Your Primary Color with Secondary & Accent Colors – For this wedding, the primary color was burgundy with the secondary colors as forest green, taupe and blush with an accent of gold.
Create One or Two Focal Points in the Room– It is easy to over design a space with decor. I would focus on creating your focal points from one of these important photographed ares: Wedding Party Entrance, Front Aisle, Altar, Head/Sweetheart Table, Drink or Food Display and Photobooth.
Pick A Few Vintage Pieces– For this wedding, the vintage pieces were: candy & wood train whistles for the reception tables and, oil lanterns & greenery throughout the ceremony room.
Mix & Match Artificial and Real Flowers– It is cost effective to use artificial flowers in your wedding look, but it is nice to add in real flowers too. It can be a slippery slope to want to get artificial garland, flowers and bouquets because it is inexpensive to get a lot of it. However, in the long run, it can clutter your focal points and cost even more the real flowers.
