Little Cutie Baby Shower
Baby Shower Planning 101 “Little Cutie”
Are you planning a baby shower for an expectant mom-to-be? This will be one of the most special moments in a young mom’s life, getting to celebrate her new bundle of joy with family and friends. So the pressure is on as the hostess of a baby shower…but we have you covered with our step-by-step guide, that I guarantee will lead to a joyful & fun celebration!
|1| DATE & TIME for the baby shower is typically on the weekend, in the early to mid afternoon as to set a casual yet social atmosphere. When selecting the month to host the shower, typically the 6th – 7th month is best as the mom-to-be is comfortable and can have time to come up with a list of gifts to be showered with.
|2| GUEST LIST are normally around 20-40 guests as to keep it intimate. It is not uncommon to host a few baby showers depending on where the couple’s family are as well as the mom-to-be friends. Make sure if you have more than one baby shower to have a baby registry that can be accessed to everyone. I like to send out an online invitation, as there are so many theme options. Here are some of my go-to online suites to check out: Minted, Paperless Post, Zazzle and Evite.
|3| REGISTRY is perfect for creating a list of baby essentials, gear and clothing for your guests to purchase that is exactly what you want for your baby’s nursery and style! Here are some great registries to check out: Babylist, Target, Amazon, BuyBuyBaby, Walmart, Baby Registry
|4| THEME & STATIONERY every party needs a theme! When selecting a theme I always like when it is anchored around the mom-to-be style. No longer do showers need to be pink or blue, but can have a unique, non-traditional theme! For our hosted baby shower, the mom-to-be picked “Cutie” which we then created the menu, stationery and decor around that one simple theme! You can easily find stationery templates online at Etsy, so all the day-of pieces and invitation are cohesive.
BONUS IDEA: Make the gift opening area a “WOW” since that is a focal point of the baby shower. We created a beautiful flower wall with sign and traditional wood rocking chair (we are in the Midwest)! It also doubled as a great photo spot to capture all your loved ones together in celebration for your bundle of joy!
|5| FOOD, DRINKS & DECOR Planning the menu and finding all the decor can be the hard part. So let’s start with writing down the theme. Then make a list of words/adjectives for that theme. Once you have done that food ideas & drinks will naturally come to mind! You can then go to Pinteret for more inspiration and shop online for decor ideas. Here are some of my go-to online shops for decor to check out: Meri Meri, Oh Happy Day, Ling’s Moments, Something Borrowed, Beau Coup, Oriental Trading Company, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Etsy and Target
|6| AGENDA & GAMES The agenda for the baby shower is very important as typically most showers are only 2 hours, but there is a lot to do. Here is a sample agenda for a 2PM Baby Shower:
2PM Guests Arrive, Mix & Mingle
2:30PM Welcome by the Mom-to-Be or Host
2:35PM Start Games
3PM Open Gifts
3:45PM Thank Everyone by the Mom-to-Be or Host
4PM Guests Leave
Now, coming up with fun, modern baby shower games can be one of the hardest part of the shower’s agenda? Some of the games should go with the theme, but not all of them have to be themed. You can do a mix of traditional and modern as well as simple to simply hilarious. Here are some of my go-to game ideas to check out: Minted, Parents, Pampers, Zazzle and The Bump
Also, make sure you have someone at the baby shower making a list of gifts received with the giver’s name. Then the mom-to-be can write “Thank You” notes to all of their guests, with a personalized message.
