Moody Weddings are the New Trend
The moody color of 2021 is all tones of brown. So it is not surprising the trend this year is for creating a contrasting & melancholy wedding day design look.
To create this dramatic wedding day design you can expand beyond browns to more neutrals. I frequently work with gray as an easy swap for brown. You are are able to have keep the room neutral, but then add in accents of color or bring a bold color with the use of florals, china, flatware, glassware, centerpieces and stationery pieces. It is no surprise that as a wedding designer, so many of our wedding couples are loving this look!
Here are my design tips from creating a dramatically, simple moody design look for this wedding couple.
Julie & Sergei

Identify your neutral base color for your wedding day that is a neutral tone. The colors to use are: Gray, Ivory, Sandstone, Bone, Driftwood, Beige and Taupe. Real Wedding Tip! For this wedding day we also brought in Rose Quartz (a grayish purple) for the head table which worked perfectly with the Dove Gray dining table linens.
Create a color palette of moody color tones for a bold accent against the neutral base color. The colors to use are: Mustard, Dusty Pink, Burgundy, Moss, Emerald and Plum. Real Wedding Tip! For this wedding day we used a mixture of all these colors in the water glasses and in the florals.
Select two accent colors to create a “WOW” ceremony, lounge or food display area. Real Wedding Tip! For this wedding day we used multicolor rugs for the ceremony and then a beautiful lounge set up with a mix of colors.
Have fun creating your moody wedding look with this trendy…that I am secretly loving!
